The Valley's Girl Scout Troop 42403 was awarded second place in the Outdoor Skills competition, held April 28 and 29 at Camp River Ranch in Carnation.

Competing against 12 other troops, the group of fifth graders tested their skills in first aid, knot tying, knife safety, outdoor cooking with propane stove, fire, and box ovens.  The girls wowed the judges with a beautiful bench, made from lashed ropes and twigs, pictured below. They also cooked a brunch of eggs with cheese, onions and peppers, and apple sauce, sausages, fresh baked muffins and coffee.  The girls spent many hours preparing for the competition, and it all paid off with their medal finish during a sunny overnight camping weekend.

Troop 42403 is from Opstad and North Bend Elementary Schools, or are home schooled.  The troop leader is Laurie Edwards of North Bend.
