An unexpected move by Kroger, the parent company of Quality Food Centers, will close the QFC store in Carnation today. The store, which has been in Carnation since 1991, will re-open tomorrow under new ownership.

Big D Enterprises, doing business under the name Carnation Market, will take over operations of the grocery store Friday. The store will be an IGA affiliate.

Store employees found out last Friday that the store would close on March 31. Representatives at the corporate level have so far been unavailable for comment.

Also last Friday, the city of Carnation received the business license application from Big D Enterprises for a grocery store.

A sign on the store window March 30 indicated that Big D Enterprises has also applied for a state liquor license.

Carnation store employees will be relocated to other QFC stores, or will stay at the new store, Carnation Market, an employee said.
