In their best state showing yet, the Mount Si gymnastics team took an historic third place finish at state championships last weekend.

Competing at the Tacoma Dome, the Wildcats, with a team score of 169, finished third behind state champ team Enumclaw, with 181, and Kamiakin, with 179.6.

It's the best finish in the team's five trips to state over the last five years. Mount Si finished fifth last year. Mount Si was undefeated in its meets this season.

During the state finals on Saturday, Feb. 16, Mount Si's Hannah Richmond tied for 11th on bars with an 8.65.

On beam, Jenn Rogers tied for seventh on floor with a 9.4, and tied for 10th on beam with a 9.15.

In all around scores, Richmond, a senior, was 18th in all-around scores, followed by Rogers at 19th. Hailey Johnson was ranked 38, Carissa Castagno was 57 and Pauline Kaczmarek was tied for 59th.

On Day one, Friday, Richmond was sixth on bars; Kaczmarek was 23rd. Rogers tied for 13th on beam, Castagno was 28th. Rogers was sixth on floor, Castagno tied for 17th. On vault, Kaczmarek was 22nd on floor, followed by Johnson at 32.

Mount Si will see a number of seniors graduate, including Elizabeth Holmes, Hannah Richmond and Jessica Trotto. A number of these state-experienced athletes are expected to return, including Rogers, Castagno, Johnson, Mackenzie Brown. Abby Weber and Maggie Kenow.
